Last year, rock band rehearsals at MS8 on Fridays were something I looked forward to all week long. Practicing some of my favorite songs with my best friends and Dmitriy Goldgisser (the best band teacher you could ever ask for) was hands-down the most fun part of my week. In band we learned very valuable skills about performing and the music world.
We spent rehearsals preparing for two concerts at the end of the year. Our first performance was at the Paddlewheeler, where the MS8 Rock Band has been playing for the past three years. The following week, the band played at Hill Country Barbecue during the MS8 BBQ&A. In addition, the band took a trip to a professional recording studio, where we practiced our set and got to experience a day in the life of a professional musician.
Even without counting all that I learned in band, the experience itself is something I will never forget. My friends and I became 100 times closer throughout the course of rehearsals. I would most definitely recommend it to anyone in the middle school, regardless of grade or even ability. If you love music and you want to enjoy it with your friends, band is the place for you!
