Let’S All Go to The Movies!

Science Fair movie poster

Today we went to the Landmark Theater on 57th Street to see the film “Science Fair”, a documentary about high schoolers all around the world who get into the ISEF, the International Science and Engineering Fair. This fair houses some of the most extraordinary inventions and discoveries that you have most likely ever seen! Especially coming from such young minds of people not that much older than MS8’s students!
We think that it is very important that we as a school watched this movie because we have our own science fair later in the school year and we think that this gave an important inspiration to us and our schoolmates. Also, it is international after all, there were contestants from all over the world — Germans, Brazilians, Canadians — contestants from almost everywhere! Some of them don’t even know how to speak English! It’s truly amazing seeing people of many cultures competing together.
At the end of the movie (don’t worry, no spoilers!) it shows the aftermath of the fair. We see that many contestants, some who didn’t get any sort of awards, go on to do something whether it is teaching others, continuing their learning experience at college, or even getting hired by companies!
It’s really amazing what such a little group of people can do with such massive minds and determination right from the heart. It is really, truly heartwarming. We really recommend that you watch this movie, or ask your child about it. Thank you for reading and goodbye!
By 6th graders, Bora B. and Grant H.
P.S. If you look hard enough you can see us in the crowd!

We thank  Ms. Marcellin, Ms. May, and Ms.  Stumme for organizing, and Picture Motion for sponsoring this amazing trip. This film marks a gr8 start to all our Science explorations at MS8.
