MS 8 Urban Advantage Science Expo 2019

On Saturday June 1st the scientists of MS 8 received a chance to attend Urban Advantage’s Science Expo, which was held at the American Museum of Natural History. I first want to thank my amazing Science teachers Ms. Stumme, Ms, Marcellin, and Ms. May for all the hard work they put in to make it possible for us to attend the Expo. As we entered the grounds we met my teacher Ms. Stumme. After registration and receiving our participation medals we were escorted to the auditorium for the staff to take professional pictures of our boards. After that the fun began.

Then we set up our boards at our tables. A few minutes later we had lunch. We enjoyed our free lunch. Lunch had different varieties to choose from such as sandwiches and wraps. Subsequent to lunch, Ms. Stumme took us to watch a 3D 45 minute movie about our unseen oceans, sea creatures, and marine life. The 3D lens was so effective that I felt like I could just touch the sea creatures right there as they came so close up. When we returned we received a bingo sheet based on other science projects where we could play, have fun, and receive prizes. As we stood in the room were our projects were displayed, I presented my project as families passed by. It was so much fun to showcase my experiment, which is: the effect of the hand sanitizer brand on the bacterial colonies that will grow. Later on we all went to the gift shop.

Furthermore, during the expo there were several experiments from different schools that we observed. Some were controlled experiments. However most were design experiments, that were focused on the design of the object after the experiment. I observed different projects from different schools.

Our MS8 scientists had a swell time at Urban Advantage’s Science Expo. Likewise, you will have an amazing time as well. I learned and experienced an abundant amount of things by 3:00 pm.
