Summer Reading Challenge!

Summer reading challenge book recommendation

We’re going to keep it light this summer but still have some fun! We suggest you challenge yourself to read four books of your choice. These can be anything from graphic novels to nonfiction to creepy mysteries to dystopian action to romance . . . to anything of your choice!

Our librarian Rachel Green is available this summer through July and August — new and returning students! — to help you. Just email her at rgreen@ms915brooklyn.org. And the assignment part is fun:

1. Keep a LOG of the books you read or listen to (see next page)

2. At the end of the summer, choose ONE book you liked the best and prepare a:

a. Written Response consisting of a brief summary and your thoughts about the book
b. A creative response. Some ideas are: a picture of an important character or scene, a poem, a collage of words and pictures that connect to the theme, a letter to the author, a letter to the character, a letter or song or rap from a character’s point of view. And any other fun and creative way you’d like to express your thoughts about something important in the book.
When we meet again in ELA class, we’ll gather in community-building circles where we will share your response to your favorite book. PARENTS, we encourage you to read along with your child this summer and talk about the books, especially the book from the BLM list! This is a great introduction to the equity and diversity conversations we will have in the fall.
