Principal
What is your background and education?
I received my Bachelor’s Degree in education from St. Joseph’s College, receiving dual licensing in Common Branch (Grades Nursery through 6th grade) and Special Education. My first Master’s Degree was in Special Education from Fordham University. My second Master’s Degree was from Bank Street College, where I received my administration license. I also have a Gifted and Talented teaching license.
As an educator, I have held several roles. I enjoy being an avid learner, constantly taking on new roles and pushing myself to absorb as much knowledge as I can. During my career, I have been a 5th grade teacher of general education classes, including Gifted and Talented classes. Then, I was asked to become the school’s math coach; a position I held for 12 years. During that time, I had the opportunity to fill several roles, such as an inquiry team leader, a data specialist, the procurement agent, the testing coordinator, and a mentor. After being the math coach, I became a Special Education Teacher Support Services (SETSS) provider. Lastly, I was an assistant principal for three years. I was the supervisor of grades 6-8, 3-5, Special Education, and the Gifted and Talented classes. Prior to this school year, my entire career had been in Park Slope at PS/MS 282. I am very excited to start the new chapter in my career at MS 915.
How long have you been teaching/working in schools?
This is currently my 25th year teaching for the New York City Department of Education.
What is your favorite part of teaching/working in schools?
I enjoy being a part of helping students to grow and achieve their goals. There is nothing more exciting than the moment when students makes that “aha” face/smile, indicating that everything has just “clicked,” and they now understand the material. They get so proud of themselves, and it’s so fulfilling as a teacher!
What do you like to do outside of school?
I am very fond of the arts. I have been teaching dance since I was 15 years old and just retired this past August. Now I get to be a dance mom and support my daughter and niece at their dance classes and recitals.
Family is very important to me. I spend most of my time with my daughter and son (twins in the 8th grade) and my husband. My siblings and I are extremely close and plan several events together with our children. I am currently excited about our upcoming annual camping trip!
