Westinghouse Campus Librarian

rchapman@ms915brooklyn.org

Rachel Chapman always knew she was going to work with young people. Science and English were always her favorite subjects and she received her Bachelor’s degree in Geology from James Madison University. Rachel taught middle and high school science for nearly a decade in her hometown in Virginia. Last year, she completed her Master’s degree in Library and Information Sciences from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and worked in a middle school library.

She recently relocated to Brooklyn and is excited to be the school librarian at the Westinghouse Campus – helping a whole community of students think outside the box. Rachel is passionate about incorporating STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) and inquiry across the curriculum, watching young people’s “ah-ha” moments, and of course, READING!

Rachel enjoys being outside and traveling – especially to her family’s home on the Chesapeake Bay in Virginia. She loves ice cream and flamingos. She lives with her fiancé in their home filled with musical instruments just a few blocks away. You can follow her on instagram at @steamlibrarian.
