What is your background and education?
I am of Caribbean Descent (Jamaican). I completed my undergraduate degree in Hospitality Administration and Master’s in Business from Southern New Hampshire University. I worked for Marriott International Hotels for about three (3) years but then decided I wanted something more fulfilling in a career. In 2008, I joined the New York City Teaching Fellows as a High School Special Education Teacher in District 75 where I spent 3.5 years. During this time, I pursued another master’s in urban education. After these experiences, I transitioned through several Community Middle and K-8 roles where I acquired a wealth of knowledge on various ways to support students in school to prepare them for High School and beyond. Recently in 2019, I completed studies in Educational Leadership at the College of Saint Rose based in Albany NY.

How long have you been teaching/working in schools?
This is currently my 14th year teaching in New York City Schools

What is your favorite part of teaching/working in schools?
My favorite part of teaching in schools is seeing Middle Schoolers grow from one phase to the next. Truly important years in a young person’s life! Especially most recently, teaching in Middle schools has helped me better understand my nieces, nephews, and cousins in their educational journey. I learn from my Middle Schoolers daily!

What do you like to do outside of school?
I love to explore restaurants around NYC. I look forward to spending time at New York City beaches in the summertime. I also enjoy staying home, lounging around the house, and sometimes having friends over to hang out. When it is warm enough, I also like to walk in Prospect Park (5 miles). I enjoy connecting with friends and family and thinking of ideas for self-improvement.
