What is Courage?

6th graders were introduced to Lois Lowry’s Number the Stars in Independent Reading class. Then focused on issues of resistance and hope during the Holocaust at The Jewish Museum.

During the 6th grade exploration we went on multiple different trips to learn more about courage. Such as The Jewish Museum where we learned about how the victims of the Holocaust had courage.

We also went to the 9/11 Museum. We learned how the people who were affected had courage. That leads me to my project for “What is Courage?”.

Alea and Bo’s Expo Project — “Trapped in Trauma”

It is about the depression that people who either witnessed or were affected by 9/11 go through after the traumatic event. Therefore we called it “Trapped in Trauma”.

“Trapped in Trauma” showed how people have to have courage to push through depression. My partner and I thought of the depression as a bubble. Therefore in our artwork there is a bubble that contains people and the scene of 9/11. Though on the outside of the bubble there is the 9/11 area now. The exploration of “What is courage?”  has helped me delve more deeply into courage and simply think about what it means.
