MS 915 Poets’ “Cafe” @the Library

student with mic in front of the class

MS 915 seventh graders spent the week before December break exploring a variety of poetry forms in order to understand how students can use their voices as a weapon to fight for the many issues that are affecting them and the world they live in. They celebrated and showcased their work at a Poetry Slam on the last day of school before break; a few of their poems are below!

Boredom

 By Olivia W.

Boredom,
When you have nothing to do,
When you don't want to do what you're doing.

Boring can be your description of something,
Boring can be your description of somewhere,
Boring can be your description of what your doing.

It depends on who you are to think something is boring,
You can sit in a room with absolutely nothing to do but think
and say, this is not boring,
You can do something that everyone thinks is fun
and say this is boring.

You can think something is boring and keep it to yourself
or you can think something is boring and let it out.

You can roll your eyes or sigh,
You can fake smile or pretend to enjoy,
Or you can walk away and do something you like.

Just know life is full of boredom and will always be.

Boredom...

Ode To Cigarettes

By Bo B.

Why?
Why do you do these things?
Why do you grab the money from people--
Like yo do their souls.
Why do you take people away,
From me, from others?
Why do you fill people lungs
With an evil tar that drowns them?
Why do you cast people under
You sickly dark spell?
I despise, hate, dislike and fear you.
So cigarettes, stop taking †he lives
Of innocent people
Who don't deserve a death
Worse than the electric chair.
So cigarettes, make me a promise,
Promise me to stay the way you are,
Never change.
So I can keep hating you,
And never fall under your trance
And end in
Slow,
Grey,
Pain…

Ode to Capcom

By Conner H.

Capcom is the type
You never really notice
But are everywhere,
Street Fighter
Mega Man
Devil May Cry
And Resident Evil too
So many great games
All so amazing
Just because of Capcom,
These games shaped my life
And the lives of many others
Devil May Cry 5,
One of the most fun games I’ve ever played.
Resident Evil 2,
The best game of 2019 an absolute masterpiece.
Street Fighter 2,
A timeless arcade classic still played today.
I could go on forever
Capcom has made too many Great games to count.
So I would just like to say.
From the bottom of my heart.
Thank you, Capcom.
